three different colors, but all me!

Which do you like?

September 19, 1929, my paternal grandparents, Margaret and Tom, on their wedding day. I never knew my grandfather on this side, as he died before I was born. I have been thinking about him today. He's the only grandparent I didn't know in time and in the flesh.

My friend Pam and I went to see Rosanne Cash and her trio play live last night. Her way of transforming her grief into images and music was really moving, and the songs took you to so many places. She told us of the first Cash relative to come to America (in the 17th century), and there were video and still images to go with the story-telling and songs. The spirits and passions of her ancestors are in her music. A really strong statement that made me come home and look at the faces of my family photos and portraits, including this one.

Speaking of family, Rosanne Cash's guitarist and producer, John Leventhal (one of the best guitarists I've ever heard live), is also her husband. They seemed to bring out the best in each other. Inspiring.

I have much hope today, about partnerships, marriages, and love conquering the bumps in the road. We all have challenges, but we have love. It is a bumpy ride but much better than sitting on the sidelines. Don't you agree?

Two scenes from the Monterey Aquarium, Labor Day weekend. The beautiful jellyfish, and one of the playful sea otters, who is quite earnestly playing with his toys! Do you see the little blue blanket sort of thing, just between his white and his blue container? Right after I snapped this photo, he pulled himself up and almost all the way out of the white container, reached down and managed to pull the blue blanket thing into the container with him! It was adorable.

If you are ever in Monterey, CA, you must visit the Aquarium. I am a member there and a donor, and I've got such a strong love for this place. If you do go, save time for a meal. Their cafe is delicious fresh food of many cultures. I had a Mongolian beef and vegetables over rice dish which was custom-ordered to include what I wanted. Delicious!

Cuddly day at home with Polly today. I am feeling under the weather and decided it should be a "pj's day" this afternoon. Po-Po thinks this is great! She doesn't like having her photo taken, though (she hates the flash), so I got a nice photo of her from above, as we sat on the floor together doing...nothing...which is what you are supposed to do when you're having a "pj's day"!

Hope you enjoy the photos.

We all just help each other. Up over the rocks. And the ocean, the sun, the light all sustain us. Give me your hand.

It's a new day today.

A Prayer from Space
-- Frank Borman, from a moon-orbiting mission, December 1968

Give us, O God, the vision which can see
Your love in the world in spite of human failure.
Give us the faith to trust Your goodness
in spite of our ignorance and weakness.
Give us the knowledge that we may continue to pray
with understanding hearts.
And show us what each one of us can do
to set forward the coming of the day of universal peace.

my very soft new t-shirt, from Monterey. I love it. It makes me think of the ocean there and I get that California feeling when I put it on. Happy purchase!
