I love the light in Monterey.

Wednesday, November 22, 2006

tonight's sunset on my beach here in Seaside, looking across to Monterey

Thank you, God, for our beautiful earth and sky, ocean and land, birds and all beings. Thank you for love and for life and thank you for showing us how to love. Help us to make a difference here, and with each sunset, remind us of our many blessings.

My Thanksgiving prayer!

Two more photos from this afternoon in Monterey. I love how the light keeps changing. And there's nothing better than bare feet in the beach sand...mmmm! happy!

On my way to Winnipeg, singing...

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

I look like both of my parents. In these two photos, I am making expressions like each of them. I find it so fascinating, how we carry our ancestors in our very faces!

Missing them both lately.

I had a wonderful talk with two of my grad. school classmates at the library yesterday. They are both in their midtwenties, and I am the age of their parents! We were talking about being separated from family, being close to family, love, pain, the whole thing. It felt great to connect with these girls, who are new to the program this year and with whom I've never sat and talked. It was a joy!

Anyway, I'm honoring my parents today. And it's time to wake up my teenager, who would happily sleep the day away if given the chance. I'm luring him awake with the smell of freshly baked muffins!
