I hate car problems!

Today my shiny new car died twice in rush-hour traffic. Died as in lost power. Right there at a red light. Twice.

I just had the car in for its oil change and service a week ago, and the fluids and everything are all fine. I have a full tank of gas. The car is not overheating, but something is wrong electrically.

Losing power on a big car (it's a Dodge Magnum with a V8 HEMI engine!) is very unnerving. I am still shaky.

I got it home, and I am awaiting the tow truck now.

I can drive my old car this week while my son is traveling some. That's a hidden blessing, I guess.

Anyway, I'm ok. But it was scary!

Horrible feeling - being in a dead car in the middle of an intersection - embarassed about blocking traffic and nervous about your safety. Do new cars still get vapor lock? I remember our old Pontiac having that problem when I was first learning to drive. Of course, that was almost 30 years ago :-( Well, I still have a few years until I hit the 30-year anniversary...

Hope you find the cause soon!

You can say that again. It was a bad situation.

I'm proud of myself for not totally freaking out. I did pretty well. The car is now at the dealer, where I want them to diagnose and fix it. Then I want them to test drive it, and then I want them to test drive it WITH me, and after all of that, I might drive it out of there.

Right now I'm just angry that the car has problems. And grateful that I'm ok.

Thanks for caring, C!

Any diagnosis today on the car?

Yes, they are sure that they don't have a diagnosis! They find nothing wrong, and the only action step so far is that they updated the computer software. They've test-driven it and checked everything twice, and it won't replicate the problem, and the computer shows no codes.

The service guy gave me the MOST ridiculous theory on the phone. He said that since Monday was our first hot day in months (85 degrees), with a cool Sunday of temps. in the 40s just beforehand, my car's memory was freaking out and it reacted to the change in weather by shutting itself down.

Huh?

I said that if that were so, ALL Dodge Magnums in Minneapolis would have died on Monday and had to be towed.

Also, I don't think I want a car that shuts itself down when the weather changes. He went on and on about this, telling me what happens in high mountain driving, until I finally said, "Just more reason for me not to want to get in my car ever again!"

I also told him it sounded very hocus pocus to me and to keep trying...

Right now our agreement is for the service dept. to keep the car through Saturday p.m. If they find something wrong, they'll fix it. I'm going to try to drive it Saturday but if it ever does htis again? I'm going for the Lemon Law!

Thanks for asking >It's been weird, to say the least.

Good luck with finding a cause! I just put $1000 in my car this week - tires and brakes, oil change, inspection - it all keeps coming... But I've been lucky so far. Car is 2-1/2 years old and has over 76,000 miles on it so I guess it was time. Only problem is my van will need the same type of services probably in two months.

Hope all is well.

Glad you're okay..I never thought a well maintained car can still go wrong...I hope i won't have the same experience with my car. But i admit i have some fixing to do...my car needs new bmw water pump before i finally drive it. I hope this repair won't bring to another car problem.
